I have to admit that I didn't know anything about palmoil or the way it's produced before I went to
Indonesia for the first time. A good friend of mine who's from Jakarta (he sings part of this song in Bahasa
Indonesia) told me a lot about it. Two thirds of the worlds palm oil production takes place in Indonesia and
Malaysia. Nearly all palm trees grow on areas that used to be native rainforest which was destroyed for
the plantations. No one considers the resulting destruction of the homes of the indigenous population.
Often they are forced to work on the plantations as cheap labour forces. One of the reasons for the
diminishing numbers of Orang-Utans is that their habitat is destroyed and animals often burn during the
clearing of the rainforest. Europe is one of the biggest consumers of palmoil, especially because it is used
in biodiesel. It is pretty much impossible to boycott products with palmoil because it's such a common
ingredient. Unfortunately a lot of vegan products also have the cheaper palmoil in them instead of a better
alternative. I wanted to write a song about this topic because nearly no one knows about this fucked
industry here.
lyrics
PALMÖL
keiner weiß es, (aber es ist ) überall drin
angebaut in Südostasien
aus den Augen aus dem Sinn
Nachfrage steigt immer mehr
Europa einer der größten Abnehmer
kannst Auto fahren, vegan essen und dich schminken
der Alleskönner lässt uns im Konsum versinken
Kemana perginya hewan-hewan liar?
Dimana orang adat harus tinggal?
Kenapa kehidupan alam yang dikorbankan?
Demi keserakahan, demi konsumsi?!?!
Menschen und Tiere Zwangsumsiedlung, Umweltzerstörung
Monokultur, Billigarbeiter, Co2 Ausstoß
das alles für die Palmölfrucht
Regenwälder brennen
Tiere brennen
Menschen werden vertrieben
